Continuous, scientific evolution and technological advances in the imaging, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer have, more than ever, made necessary the multidisciplinary approach. Our scientific team was created with the purpose of a comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic approach to women.
An assessment of the patient’s imaging examinations is performed during the visit, and wherever necessary, a clinical examination and ultrasound follow.
In addition, an individual risk of developing breast cancer, based on the patient’s history, is assessed and individualized advice is provided. In cases where a further investigation of a finding is necessary, a biopsy or an FNA is immediately performed, under ultrasound guidance.Surgery, where and when required, is performed after detailed, patient briefing, while taking into account the optimal oncological and aesthetic outcome. A plastic and reconstructive surgeon from our scientific team, strives to provide the most appropriate technique within the patient’s interest.
Finally, the philosophy of our team is to provide solid, medical advice and, upon patient request, a second opinion, according to current guidelines.
Nikolaos V. Michalopoulos - Surgeon
Nikolaos V. Michalopoulos is an Assistant Professor of Surgery of the Medical School, University of Athens, Greece.He initially obtained a Bachelor in Biology in 1998 and then graduated from the Medical School of Athens in 2003. Following completion of his PhD thesis in the University of Athens, he completed his General Surgery training in the 1st Dept. of Propaedeutic Surgery in “Hippocratio” General Hospital of Athens. During his residency, Dr. Michalopoulos showed strong interest in Breast Surgery and, in 2010, he performed a Fellowship in Royal Marsden Hospital in London, UK.
He continued his specialization in Breast Surgery immediately after completing his surgical training, as he performed a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery in Royal Free and Whittington Hospitals in London, UK. He was also announced Honorary Lecturer of the Division of Surgery and Interventional Science of the University College London for 3 years.
He has received Scholarships from the European Society of Surgical Oncology, the American College of Surgeons, the Hellenic Surgical Society and the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and in 2013 he received the European Board of Surgery Qualification in Breast Surgery. Since then he worked as an Academic Clinical Fellow at the 1st Dept. of Propaedeutic Surgery of “Hippocratio” General Hospital of Athens.
Recently, Dr. Michalopoulos was elected Assistant Professor of Surgery of the University of Athens. He runs many protocols regarding breast cancer and he is invited speaker and member of the Scientific Committee in several International and Greek Conferences. He has published more than 70 articles in peer-review journals and he is also reviewer in 15 well known medical journals.
Ass. Prof. Michalopoulos performs the full range of breast surgical procedures including breast conserving surgery and sentinel node biopsy. He is an expert in Breast Surgical Oncology as well as Oncoplastic Breast Surgery and immediate reconstruction following mastectomy.
Alexandra S. Nikita - Breast Radiologist
Alexandra S. Nikita obtained her medical degree from the Medical School of Athens in 1993. She completed her training in Radiology in the 2nd Radiological University Dep (Eugenidion Hospital, Athens Greece). In 2004 she obtained her Ph.D degree (University of Athens). She trained and specialized in breast imaging at the Radiological Department of University Polyclinico tor Vergata, Rome and at the Instituto Europeo di Oncologia (IEO) in Milan, Italy.
In August 2007 she founded and led as President and CEO the Diagnostic Imaging Center for women “DIAKENTRO” in Athens, Greece. In 2011 she sold her shares to Affidea (Dutch Holding Company, healthcare investor).
From February 2013 to March 2015 she worked as Lead Breast Radiologist at Cambridge Breast Clinic, Mediterraneo Hospital in Athens, Greece.
Throughout her career, she has been invited as a speaker and has presented in numerous international medical conventions and has published her work in medical journals.
She currently works as Lead Breast Radiologist at Mediterraneo Hospital, Athens Greece and as Consultant Breast Radiologist at Euroclinic Breast Clinic and at Eugenideio Hospital
Markos Solomos - Plastic Surgeon
Mr Mark Solomos completed his basic surgical training in the NHS, in accordance with the guidelines set by the Intercollegiate Board and the Royal College of Surgeons. He was successful in the written and oral exams that granted him his membership in the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow. He continued his specialization in Breast Surgery immediately after completing his surgical training, as he performed a Fellowship in Surgical Oncology and Oncoplastic Breast Surgery in Royal Free and Whittington Hospitals in London, UK.
